Into Flora

I have been known to give girls flowers
Delivered by hand, or sent round by a van,
Having met them for the briefest of hours,
I've sent bunches of lilys to warm-hearted Jillies,
Single stemmed Roses to arrogant posers,
And Gardenias to long-legged fillies.

I've seen them arranged in bouquet, or a spray,
By hands that have style, or just feminine guile,
But like the flowers they all fade away,
I've seen them cast down in all parts of town
From the tops of tall gleaming spirelets,
You see, God made all women, then gave them to me
As an excuse for pure mindless violets.
